Biography
Fernando de la Barreda was born in Mexico City. He started studying classical piano from the age of six. His dedication and fast learning skills led him to compete four years later in a National Piano Competition, organized by the Mexican Ministry of Culture, where he was awarded with one of the six prizes being the youngest contestant. After this, he continued his piano studies with Mexican concert pianist Mauricio Nader, with whom he explored the contemporary repertoire. Apart from the classical training, he started to study jazz and enrolled in one of Berklee College of Music's Summer Programs, where he studied drums and percussion.
After many years of studying theory and performance, he started to compose his first works. He was admitted at Universidad Panamericana to study the Bachelor in Composition with the renowned composers Mario Lavista and Francisco Cortés Álvarez, where he started to develop the sound that characterizes him today. During this program, Fernando met award-winning composer Tomás Barreiro, and it was through him that he started to get into composing for visual media. During the pandemic he became an apprentice and collaborator of Barreiro's team.
He was then admitted with a scholarship at Berklee College of Music to study the Master's Degree in Scoring for Film, Television and Video Games. During this Master's Degree he was mentored by relevant industry professionals such as: Lucio Godoy, Alfons Conde, Sergio Jiménez Lacima, Vicent Ortíz and Pablo Schüller. He recently completed this degree in 2023 with highest honors (Summa Cum Laude). Fernando is currently established in Mexico City, and is now working on some new projects that are soon to be published.
